You've landed

This is the planet you've spent your career studying and now you're finally here. Faint electromagnetic signals from this planet made their way to your home planet centuries ago, and you led the team that finally cracked the code of their strange alien language.

The effort took most of your career, and much of your lifespan. Now, in your remaining years, you've earned the chance to travel farther than any of your species has before and see this foreign world with your own six eyes. It will be a one-way trip.

If your calculations were correct, you should have landed in the cultural heart of what was widely considered to be the finest city of the American Empire.

"Hello, San Diego", you say using your computerized translator.

None of the aliens seem to be around. You suppose some tragedy must have befallen them while their electromagnetic signals were traversing the light years between worlds.

Eschscholzia

You are standing in a small field of bright orange flowers. At least you think they're orange. This alien species seems to experience 'color' differently. You remember this plant from your research. It's *eschscholzia*; better known as California Poppy: the 'state flower'.

Down amongst the flowers, you spot a gopher hole. You think you could manage to crawl down there if you wanted to...

Off in the distance, you see... could that be a Mastodon!? No, that must be a statue at the Zoo.

To your west, you see what must be the Museum of Man, with it's California Tower and blue tile dome.

To the east, are the ruins of what was once the House of Charm.
